Chiropractic Care & Headaches

While many people experience ordinary headaches as a result of tension or stress, some people are troubled by recurring headaches that simply won’t go away, and keep returning to cause pain and discomfort. Some of these headaches can be so troublesome that they actually leave you temporarily disabled, and unable to perform your normal daily routine of activities. If you are bothered by recurring headaches that are fairly severe, you should enlist the aid of an expert headache chiropractor, like those at our Creekside Chiropractic center.

Types of headaches

While headaches may all feel the same, there are actually different types of headaches, and these all have different causes.

  • Tension headaches – are probably the most common of all types and these are usually the ones people refer to when complaining of a headache. The most frequent cause of a tension headache is stress, so if you’re constantly undergoing stress, you’re more likely to have tension headaches. You can also experience tension headaches if your sleeping habits are inadequate if you have poor nutrition, if you skip meals, or if you consume excessive alcohol.
  • Sinus headaches – are identifiable by the pain and swelling in the facial area which they trigger. You may also have itchiness, congestion, fever, or a runny nose if you’re bothered by sinus headaches.
  • Cervicogenic headaches – are triggered by pain in the neck, although the victim usually thinks that the pain occurs in their head. These types of headaches are generally triggered by infections, neck injuries, and unusually high blood pressure.
  • Migraine headaches – are the most painful of all headaches and are characterized by throbbing pain that occurs on one side of the head. It’s very common for sufferers of migraines to be bothered by light sensitivity and sound sensitivity.

How chiropractic care helps headaches

Chiropractic adjustments have been shown historically to be very effective in treating different types of headaches, including migraines. Some of the specific treatments used to handle your headaches will be spinal adjustments, dietary counseling, stress management counseling, massage therapy, joint movements, spinal manipulations, neck exercises, and in some cases, even lifestyle modifications. The main goal of chiropractic care is always to remove the source of pain so that your body can begin the process of self-healing.

Once the true cause of your headaches has been established, a program of treatment will be initiated so that the frequency of your headaches will diminish, and any discomfort you feel will also be significantly lessened. Some combination of the above chiropractic treatments will generally be used to manage your symptoms and restore long-term health. The combination of treatments used will always depend on the individual, because no two persons ever have the same exact symptoms, nor do they have the same state of health and wellness.

At Creekside Chiropractic, every patient is treated as an individual, and that means any treatment program will be fully customized to that individual. Our skilled practitioners are experts at finding out exactly what’s causing your headaches, and once they have determined that, they will work with you on an appropriate program of treatment that will benefit you both immediately and over the long term.
